A QBX file is associate accountant’s transfer copy of a QuickBooks company file. If a client has sent you a QBX file, you can not use it till you either convert it to a “regular” accountant’s copy file (QBA) or a company file (QBW). you'll be able to only open or convert files saved within the current version of QuickBooks or the year previous.  A  company file in this format can not be changed except for adding journal notes.   Y ou cannot open the QBX file , If your version of Q uick B ooks  (2012) is older than your client's version of Q uick B ooks.
